OFRA "Manhattan" Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick Review + Swatch

Disclaimer: I don't know if winning this by taking an ipsyOS survey makes this a press sample, but I'm gonna mention it anyway just to be safe. All thoughts and opinions stated are my own.

Somebody call Satan because hell is about to freeze over. I may have found an OFRA product that I like. GASP! For those of you that don't know, I'm not a fan of OFRA. I think they overprice their products, have terrible packaging, and sub-par items. OFRA was the brand of cosmetics that came in my student kit when I was in school for esthetics, and everything from the crumbling liners to the less-than-idea foundation called "Ethnic 1" made me so grumpy when I had to work with it. However I do know when to admit that something is alright.

Ok, so my packaging is a bit different than what you'd normally get. I think mine is a smaller size, but I have no way of comparing it and it's unknown volume to the regular packaging which looks like this:

Application can be a bit cumbersome because the applicator is rather large. If you have smaller lips like me, or aren't very confident in your out-of-the-tube skills, then you might want to use a lip brush. The product is a bit thick and has an almost mousse-like texture. It also takes quite some time to dry from a liquid to a not-ever-really-dry-but-it's-not-gonna-move-around state. OFRA does state that this product never truly dries down like most matte lipsticks and also transfers. The shade "Manhattan" is a berry mauve shade. What you see in the tube and what shows up on your lips are not the same. I would have loved the shade in the tube, but it is definitely more purple on.

As for wear, it does wear quite a long time. It's not a product that you'll forget is on your lips, but I'll take that with the fact that you get nice, full coverage color for several hours. It survives well during drinks, but needs to be removed and reapplied after eating since it starts to fade and won't apply well over itself.

TL;DR

Price: $19.90

Size: 8g

Availability: OFRA, Birch Box

Pros:
  • Long wearing
  • Full coverage, full color
  • Lasts through drinking
Cons:
  • A bit heavy feeling
  • Cumbersome to apply
Cruelty free: Indeed they are!

Final thoughts: If you're a fan of true, matte, non-transfer liquid lips, then you may want to look elsewhere, but if you're fine with a product that has great pigmentation but does some transferring then these might be worth a look. I like this. It's a perfectly good product, and it's the first OFRA product that I genuinely like, but I don't love it, y'know?
