Tinted brow gels have been my go-to brow routine for a while now, so I've experienced a plethora from different brands. I can say with confidence that this is my favorite one from the drugstore. It hits the three categories that I look for in a brow gel product; it tints the hairs, it shapes the brow, and it fills in sparse spots as well.

Essence Make Me Brow comes in a small, color coded tube with a black cap, quite similar to my old fave, Benefit Gimme Brow. It also has a small brush, much like Benefit Gimme Brow and Glossier Boy Brow, which is definitely my preferred applicator for these type of products, however this brush is a little longer and spaced out when compared to the other two. What I really like about this shade, the darker of the two offered, is that it's a nice grey brown that doesn't leave the brows looking too red and somehow avoids being ashy. The formula is very light and comfortable. The thin gel has ling fibers in it, which unfortunately I find get separated from the mixture since they get caught in the stiff brush, but they eventually adhere to the brow hairs after a few passes.

This product definitely has a more natural appearance, which is kind of the goal with these brow mascaras, but this one is exceptionally so. That doesn't mean that it's so natural looking that you're left wondering if it actually worked since there is a visible difference and more groomed appearance to them, but it doesn't leave them looking oversaturated and goopy like several other drugstore options I've used before.

TL;DR

Price: $2.99

Size: 0.12 fl oz/3.8 mL

Availability: Ulta, Target

Pros:
  • Comfortable
  • Not "goopy"
  • Color doesn't pull too red or ashy
  • Natural looking, but still groomed

Cons:
  • The fibers get caught in the stiff brush

Cruelty free: Yeppy!

Final thoughts: I dare you to find a better brow mascara for $3. I. Dare. You. This thing is amazing, natural looking, and mind-numbingly affordable. It's definitely worth the (small amount of) cash, so go get you one today!

  1. I'm loving this in the lighter shade - its surprisingly ginger friendly! I'm half way through writing my review and I was nodding along the whole time I read yours.
