I got this lipgloss WAAAAY back from Influenster, but for some reason I never got around to reviewing it, and thusly it got lost in the shuffle of my makeup stash.
I recently rediscovered it after I started packing up my belongings earlier this month in preparation for my upcoming move. After putting two and two together, I figured out that I had previously tried this product and I did NOT like it. Of course, that was a few years ago and it had been reformulated since then. Here is a little visual aid to jog your memory of what these used to look like prior to around 2011:
If my memory serves me correctly, these weren't all that pleasant. They had a bit of a strange tacky laquer consistency to them, the ones with shimmer felt quite gritty, the scent was a strange chemical-y perfume-y nonsense (with a matching taste), and the doefoot was a bit scratchy.
Would I call the new formula an improvement? Heck. Yes. Oh, sweet baby Jesus, yes. Read on after the jump!
N.Y.C did a complete product overhaul with these. New packaging, new applicator, and a brand spankin' new formula.
The classic (and rather low quality) doefoot applicator was replaced with a longer, more slender, flexible, and much softer wand. At first I was a little skeptical about this new applicator because I frankly fear change, but it didn't turn out to be too bad and it functioned quite well.
This is what Nude York City looks like swatched. It's a gorgeous nude-beige with some sliver shimmer in the tube, but it sheers out considerably when applied. It also has a very high gloss sheen to it while still managing to not feel like a super thick gloss.
The formula improvement is basically the equivalent of going to bed after failing all of your finals and waking up to discover that you obtained your degree overnight and all of your student loans have been paid off. In short; this new stuff is a MASSIVE improvement!
- The consistency is slick and sheer, but it doesn't slide all over the place and it certainly isn't nearly as sticky!
- Despite having some shimmer, this lipgloss isn't nearly as gritty as it used to be. Sure, the grit is still slightly noticeable when I rub my lips together, but it doesn't feel like I'm exfoliating with a sandblaster this time around.
- The scent! Oh, lawdy, the scent. Sweet almond-crusted creme brulee scent > previous perfumed chemical stank.
- The taste is also an improvement. It's very very VERY lightly flavored like the scent, but it does have a slight chemical undertone to it that isn't that easily detected.
New York Color also has made a few claims about this product and all but one is met with this shade. Not too shabby says I!
- Pure pigments. Eh, this is a pretty sheer gloss. I'm gonna have to say nope to this in regards to this particular shade.
- 3D-effect shine. Oh yiss. This is a rather glossy looking gloss.
- Moisturizes lips. I can't really guarantee that this will condition your lips, but it certainly feels more moisturized than bare lips.
- Creamy and soft texture. Check and check.
- Non-sticky. Super check.
Honestly, the only thing I have to complain about when it comes to this product is that the wear time leaves something to be desired. The formula starts getting thinner and thinner after application and eventually wears down nearly nothing on my bare lips anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on how much I'm using my lips.

I am simply blown away by this cheap little drugstore lipgloss! I'm really glad that I got this from Influenster otherwise I honestly would not have picked it up by myself. I totally recommend these glosses.
